Man Utd star who attended FA Youth Cup is future captain material

Manchester United’s Under-18s were in action in the prestigious FA Youth Cup on Wednesday and Senne Lammens made sure he was in attendance.

At Old Trafford in front of a crowd of a few thousand, Manchester United’s U18s beat Sunderland 3-2 to progress to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

The Red Devils last won the FA Youth Cup in 2022 with a squad that included Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho as key players.

JJ Gabriel has impressed in the cup run, but it was Noah Ajayi who stole the headlines with a superb performance at the Theatre of Dreams.

Senne Lammens shows leadership with FA Youth Cup attendance

Senne Lammens is still in his debut season at United following his £18m summer move from Royal Antwerp, but he has already made a huge impact.

On the pitch, Lammens has added calm and composure to United’s defence, and his shot-stopping and high claims have made a huge upgrade on the likes of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

But off the pitch, Lammens looks like a future captain in the making. Lammens has been compassionate in his off-pitch duties and he has been a vocal figure when the squad has needed leadership.

After the defeat to Newcastle, Lammens questioned United’s ‘mentality’ and the Red Devils quickly bounced back to winning ways.

As per the official FA Cup page on X, Lammens was in attendance for Wednesday’s Youth Cup fixture alongside head coach Michael Carrick, Sir Alex Ferguson, Wayne Rooney and Tom Heaton.

It is only a small gesture to spend his evening watching the youth players, but at a club like United, that goes a long way.

Could YOU see Bryan Mbeumo as a future Man Utd captain after Bruno Fernandes’ exit? 🤔🫡

Amad compared Bryan Mbeumo with Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire. If Mbeumo isn’t ‘Man Utd captain material,’ who should be next in line for the armband? 👀

Senne Lammens already has a brilliant reputation at Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes is an excellent captain for Manchester United, and that is a credit to his on-pitch performances and leadership as well as his off-pitch responsibilities.

Fernandes has been a brilliant ambassador of the club and a fantastic role model for young players to follow. Whoever follows in his footsteps as captain has big boots to fill.

Lammens has a similar personality, and he is already showing that in his debut season. He may not be as emotional and passionate as Fernandes on the pitch, but if anything that has been the biggest criticism of the Portuguese playmaker during his time as captain.

Ruben Amorim did not watch youth games during his tenure as United head coach, and that ended up being a huge red mark on his reputation. Lammens is going above and beyond to watch the academy play, and it is just another sign that he is captain material in years to come.
