According to Portuguese outlet ZeroZero, Amorim is viewed as the standout candidate. This is the case if the club move away from their primary plan.
“If Benfica go to what I consider plan B… Benfica have to try Ruben Amorim,” journalist Luís Rocha Rodrigues said.
He went further, outlining why Amorim stands out in the current market.
“Looking at the market, looking at logical and valid solutions, someone who knows how to win in Portugal, someone who understands what it means to be at a big club… I think Ruben Amorim is in pole position,” he added.
Why his profile still carries weight
The renewed interest underlines how highly Amorim remains rated despite the short spell in England.
Before arriving at Old Trafford, he had built one of the most convincing managerial profiles in Europe at Sporting, fierce rivals to Benfica. He delivered a Primeira Liga title and developed a clear tactical structure. That structure was often based on a back three and aggressive pressing.
That track record continues to shape how clubs view him. In Portugal, his understanding of the domestic landscape is seen as a major advantage. Meanwhile, abroad, his reputation for building coherent teams still attracts attention.
