Coventry City are reportedly eyeing a move for Aston Villa midfielder, Ross Barkley.
According to SportsBoom, Barkley 'could find a new home' with the Sky Blues, provided they secure promotion to the Premier League.
Frank Lampard's team could edge closer to this goal with another victory against Swansea on Saturday evening. With each win, the need to bolster their squad for a top-flight campaign becomes increasingly apparent.
The report suggests that Aston Villa would be 'open to offers' for Barkley, who has a year remaining on his contract, having returned to Villa Park in the summer of 2024.
Barkley's football journey includes stints at Everton, Chelsea, a loan spell at Villa during the 2021/21 season, Nice and Luton Town.
Interestingly, Lampard was Barkley's manager at Stamford Bridge, where the midfielder played 31 matches in the 2019/20 season, including a substitute appearance in the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal. A few months later, he was loaned out to Villa.
Under Unai Emery's guidance, Barkley has made 45 appearances, 15 of which were this season, but only one Premier League start.
SportsBoom also suggests that Wrexham might express interest if they secure promotion, and that Sheffield United contemplated a January move for the 32 year old.
Currently, City have Matt Grimes and Frank Onyeka orchestrating play behind the attackers, with an obligation to make the Brentford man's loan permanent if they achieve promotion.
Victor Torp, Josh Eccles and Jamie Allen are also potential choices for the midfield.
