Wilcox isn't messing around: Man Utd open talks for "world-class" Casemiro replacement from…

With Casemiro set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, Jason Wilcox has set out to bring in a statement signing as a replacement.

Neville urges Wilcox to strengthen "problem" position

Gary Neville has suggested Man United will need to make a number of additions in the middle of the park this summer, saying: "The centre of midfield is a problem. Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are doing a great job right now for Michael Carrick.

"However, every Manchester United fan in this stadium know that is going to be nowhere near enough when they start playing in the Champions League next season.

Neville also went on to say: "Casemiro is leaving and I think Manuel Ugarte will leave. They need two really good central midfield players. Probably one that's more positional, like a Michael Carrick-type, and one that's more of a destroyer.

Work to sign a new central midfielder is already underway, and the Red Devils have identified several targets from within the Premier League, including Brighton star Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali.

However, United are also looking at options from further afield, and Wilcox isn't messing around, having recently made an approach for a Real Madrid star.

Man Utd stepping up move for "world-class" midfielder

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Man United have now opened talks to sign Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, with intermediaries making it clear the Frenchman is set to be available this summer, and the race for his signature is heating up.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also in the picture to sign the Frenchman, and Arne Slot's side are leading the race as things stand, although the Blues could pose a problem, given that he is open to a move to London.

With the 23-year-old about to enter his prime, he wants to make sure he is a regular starter wherever he ends up, which is no surprise, having been lauded as a "world-class" player by journalist Raj Chohan.

The Madrid star is particularly adept at winning back possession, averaging the second-highest number of tackles won per 90 in La Liga this season.

La Liga's best tacklers Club Average per 90

Lucas Ahijado Real Oviedo 4.1

Eduardo Camavinga Real Madrid 4.0

Mikel Vesga Athletic Club 3.9

Gabriel Suazo Sevilla 3.8

Pau Navarro Villarreal 3.8

With Neville predicting two defensive midfielders will leave Man United this summer, namely Ugarte and Casemiro, it will be important to bring in a player with a similar profile, and Camavinga could be the ideal addition to the squad.
