Manchester United’s search for a new midfielder has led them to Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, and a deal is already reported to be advanced.
Signing Bruno Guimaraes would leave Newcastle fans distraught, but for Manchester United, it would be a move that best replaces what Casemiro is to the club ahead of his exit.
Casemiro has recommended Guimaraes to United, with the pair being Brazilian compatriots. An endorsement from Casemiro is big, considering he’s won all at the club level.
Now, reports have suggested that Guimaraes is reported to be in advanced talks with United. But how have Newcastle reacted to this?

Manchester United advanced talks for Bruno Guimaraes is news to Newcastle
On Friday morning, it broke that United are in talks to sign Guimaraes from Newcastle, with the deal said to be at an advanced stage. This, according to a report from Reuters, reporter Fernando Kallas.
This is the same source that first reported Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle, and so there is absolutely something in it.
But now, according to the northern football correspondent for The I Paper, Mark Douglas, Guimaraes rumours are surprising his sources at Newcastle.

This implies that Newcastle either aren’t aware of the £69m transfer talks, or that the story isn’t true. However, when Kallas reported on Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle, this was also surprising to Lyon, who denied it before he ended up being correct.
Newcastle appears to be a club United intend to shop at this summer, with Sandro Tonali a big target for Ineos during this summer’s midfield rebuild.
However, United won’t get both, so if a deal for Guimaraes really is on the cards, then we can rule out the Italian joining him.
Either way, it seems likely United will sign someone from Newcastle this summer.

Gary Neville would be behind Bruno Guimaraes move
Guimaraes would be a massive coup for United, mainly for the goals and leadership he would bring to a team that is losing Casemiro.
Signing the Brazilian would be a popular move, with Gary Neville a fan of Guimaraes since his earlier days in the league.
“He’s a brilliant player, and he’s enjoying himself – why wouldn’t you? 3-0 up at Old Trafford, they’ve been really good tonight,” he said after Newcastle thrashed United.
Guimaraes would be a short-term addition for United, not representing the long-term planning Ineos initially wanted, but a signal of intent to challenge for the league next year.
This likely comes with the club seeing how close United could have been this season if Ruben Amorim hadn’t had so long. An ambitious move.
