Casemiro may be about to leave Man Utd the ultimate parting gift

Manchester United could benefit from one transfer advantage only Casemiro can offer as he makes his way out the Old Trafford exit

Casemiro may help Manchester United get ahead in the race to sign his replacement if he does end up leaving this summer. The Red Devils are allegedly in advanced talks to recruit Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, and Casemiro could make all the difference.

It's reported United have opened talks with the Magpies concerning a £69million move for Guimaraes. The 28-year-old would in many ways be the ideal heir to take over from his Brazil team-mate, who announced in January he'd be leaving United in the summer.

However, interest from Real Madrid threatens to derail United's succession plan. Los Blancos are also in the market for midfield reinforcements and don't have many peers when it comes to pulling power at present.

That's where Casemiro comes in. The 34-year-old has Guimaraes' ear and is clearly revered by the Newcastle skipper, who has become a cult figure in the north-east since joining from Lyon in a £40m move back in January 2022.

Speaking about how he views Casemiro as an inspiration back in November 2025, Guimaraes told Globo Esporte: "His background, his titles… he’s a complete player. His career speaks for itself.

"In one of my first interviews with the national team, in 2020, when I arrived, they asked if I was inspired by anyone in midfield, and I said his name: Casemiro. He’s also an idol there for everything he’s done, especially at Real Madrid – the five [Champions League] titles.

"A guy that everyone who plays in the Brazilian midfield talks about, Casemiro is the guy we have to follow. So I think it’s a bit of everything. He’s a leader."

The pair will both form part of Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad this summer when they go in search of World Cup glory. And United fans will be hanging their hopes on 'Agent Casemiro' to do his bit for the recruitment drive while they're in camp together.

There is the added caveat that Casemiro will undoubtedly have a soft spot for another of his former clubs and United's transfer rivals, Real. However, his current employers have a lot more need of Guimaraes' skill set at present, particularly if Casemiro does follow through with his pledge to leave once his contract expires in June.

There has been rampant speculation suggesting United and Casemiro could trigger his one-year extension option in light of the improvements made under Michael Carrick. Old Trafford legend Wayne Rooney recently appeared on Match of the Day and suggested it would be a mistake to end the relationship now, though it appears that will remains the case.

After growing so close to United and their fanbase across his four-year tenure, Casemiro may be in the mood to give back. And many supporters would like nothing more than if he were to use his unique position to promote the United cause and divert Guimaraes' attention toward Manchester instead of Madrid.
