Luis Enrique laughed at the suggestion of snubbing Manchester United whilst confirming his desire to remain at Paris Saint-Germain. That's if remarks made to a supporter are anything to go by.

Following Ruben Amorim's departure in January, Michael Carrick has taken the reins at Old Trafford to impressive effect. In his opening nine fixtures this campaign he has racked up a remarkable seven victories and his team are now genuine top-four challengers.

Yet, regardless of how impressively Carrick has fared, he isn't assured of remaining in the position beyond the season and is only under contract until the summer, when the plan is to bring in a permanent head coach.

PSG manager Enrique is amongst numerous reported candidates on United's shortlist. But a recent supporter encounter perhaps suggests that the 55-year-old, whose contract in Paris runs until 2027, intends to remain where he is.

In footage doing the rounds online, Enrique pulled over his vehicle to sign autographs for supporters when one declared: "I hope you stay with PSG for a long time."

The Spanish boss's response was revealing as he replied: "Me too." The same supporter then raised United and questioned: "Not at United though?" Enrique simply laughed off this notion.

If this discussion is to be taken at face value, then Enrique intends to stay on as PSG boss. Recent reports suggest that whilst he hasn't yet reached a new agreement, his contract renewal is one of the French club's main priorities.

Nevertheless, two former Premier League stars would prefer to see Carrick remain in charge of United instead of Enrique anyway. Ex-Chelsea star Jody Morris and former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott debated the United job last month and reached a clear consensus.

Speaking on In The Mixer brought to you by Sky Bet, Morris stated: "I have a lot of time for Michael Carrick. He was on my Pro Licence course and I've been on a few League Managers' Association things with him.

"He's an astute student of the game. Straight away, he comes in and Kobbie Mainoo's in there and he's been brilliant. It would be criminal not to give him the job if he carries on."

When asked whether he'd choose Enrique over Carrick if he were available in the summer, Morris responded: "I'd still go with Carrick, because I honestly don't think Enrique would come to United."

Lescott concurred and said: "I don't know if Enrique goes there because I don't think he sees them as genuine contenders. I think Carrick should get the job because I don't know if Enrique will help them become contenders.

"I think Carrick definitely does that. I think he has a stronger connection to the club, the fans, everything to help them get to that stage."
