Watch as fan Liam becomes New York City champion in his Safc strip

A video of trans-Atlantic SAFC fan Liam Kwon has gone viral and he has even been congratulated by the club after being crowned New York City’s Spelling Bee champion.

Youngster Liam was representing P.S. 032 The State Street School in the New York city wide spelling competition for primary school age children.

The video shows Liam, dressed in the current Sunderland AFC home strip, correctly spelling the word ‘Dvorak’ to be crowned city champion.

After completing the spelling, Liam can be see jumping around and cheering on stage in his red and white striped shirt with number 5 and the name Ballard on the back.

Liam can then be seen in his Black Cats shirt receiving his Spelling Bee champion’s trophy.

After being crowned champion, Liam said: “It’s just unbelievable. This is my first time in Spelling Bee and so this is really meaningful to me.”

Following the post by New York City (NYC) Public Schools, Sunderland AFC posted a message which said: “This is brilliant. Congratulations Liam”, followed by a love heart emoji.

NYC Public Schools posted a message to accompany the video which said: “Congratulations to Liam from P.S. 32 in Queens for taking home the gold during this year’s NYC Spelling Bee. We are so proud of the dozens of New York City Schools students who participated in the two days of competition.”

Liam will now be wearing his Sunderland AFC shirt as he competes in the National Championship in Washington DC.
