Manchester United are interested in signing both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer from Newcastle.
Rebuilding the midfield is the order of this summer for Manchester United, and Newcastle’s two star players are being looked at.
Mainly, rumours have linked Sandro Tonali to United. However, now it’s reported that United are in talks to sign Guimaraes with these discussions said to be advanced.
Both are brilliant midfielders, but for what United need, Tonali may have already explained why Guimaraes is better suited.

Sandro Tonali praised Bruno Guimaraes as a character
Speaking with Newcastle club media last season, Tonali explained that Guimaraes had been key in helping him settle into the dressing room after his suspension for gambling was served.
“I was in Wolverhampton with the team, and maybe the first people Bruno and Joelinton helped me before the game. I think this is difficult for the players to stay with me and for this problem.
“I think for me, if I have the game the day after, I pause, I rest, and go to sleep. But Bruno and Joe are top players and top people. And for me, I like the Brazilian guys. Not only because they help me, but they help the team”.

Tonali paints Guimaraes as a true leader and key for him arriving as a younger midfielder. For this reason, United could be considering Guimaraes as the Casemiro replacement.
Guimaraes is a title winning signing, purely because he has the personality United need in midfield and is an upgrade on Casemiro in terms of his ability to move around the pitch.

Manchester United need leadership this summer
While signing Elliot Anderson would be a brilliant addition for United, it is also a risk considering his age, lack of experience and leadership.
United would risk facing the issues Chelsea have had with an inexperienced team, something Guimaraes would eradicate the risk of.
Casemiro leaving United creates a massive void in midfield, one that could become huge if Bruno Fernandes decides to leave the club this summer.
Therefore adding character and leadership to the dressing room needs to be a consideration of United’s hunt to rebuild the position this summer.
Guimaraes might be the right addition, if made alongside a younger midfielder to learn from him such as Ayyoub Bouaddi or Christos Mouzakitis.
It would signal United’s intent to win now, not later, and ambition to mount a title challenge next season. Which looks very possible considering United might have been in the race this season if Ruben Amorim left sooner.
