“Don’t deserve..” – Daniel Farke drops honest Leeds United relegation verdict

Daniel Farke is confident of his Leeds United side’s credentials in staying in the Premier League. Now, he’s laid out what is needed to avoid relegation.

Only eight games remain in Leeds’ battle to stay in the Premier League. So far, it’s been a positive season for Daniel Farke with United siting three clear of the drop.

Irrespective of the gap to 18th, Farke is undoubtedly enthused by Leeds’ run-rate of points on the board. Currently, we’re on course to clear the magic 38-point mark.

Daniel Farke answers how many points Leeds United need to ‘secure’ Premier League survival

Every time a team below us picks up a positive result, it’s suddenly panic stations online. Farke doesn’t subscribe to that, and he doesn’t really have any reason to think otherwise.

32 points from 30 games is a rate that should see Leeds safe, if we continue in the same manner.

As we look ahead to Brentford, the Leeds boss previewed the game with his view on what we need in the last eight games to secure survival.

“Always expect every team to fight until the end, to grab their chance to stay in the league. One of the seasons where you maybe need a few more points that previously when 32 might have been enough,” Farke told the press, per the YEP.

“Don’t expect it will happen again this season, we need to win at least six more points but might need one or two more. Six to eight points needed, eight opportunities and want to do it.”

Daniel Farke issues confident stance on Leeds United’s chances of Premier League survival

Six-to-eight points sounds very doable, doesn’t it?

That’s two wins and a couple of draws from the last eight games, where we still have to play four of the five sides below us (two of them at home).

Opposition Home/Away League position Opps’ home/Away position

Brentford Home 7th 10th

Manchester United Away 3rd 3rd

Wolves Home 20th 20th

Bournemouth Away 10th 10th

Burnley Home 19th 19th

Spurs Away 16th 20th

Brighton Home 12th 11th

West Ham Away 18th 17th

Fielding a question about his side’s confidence, Farke laid down the challenge to United to see out the task.

“From the first day we were confident,” Farke continued. “After many brilliant performances and good results, perhaps even more now.

“Everyone knows the different animal the Premier League can be but we take confidence. Still work to do, if we don’t win six to eight points then we probably don’t deserve to stay in this league but I’m pretty sure we will prove we do.”

Can Leeds United secure the six-to-eight points needed to survive Premier League relegation in May?

Getting to 40 points should be the target. It’s going to be a higher tally than any season in recent memory to stay in the league.

The gap between the bottom of the division and the top has narrowed significantly, which gives us a leg up in getting points on the board more often. However, the teams around us can say the same.

Specifically looking at the home games we’ve got left – we face the two worst away teams in the league at Elland Road. As a result, we ought to be getting wins there, which are vital and would put us on the brink.

Of course, we also need to start showing more on the road. And, away to Spurs, that could be a six-pointer that we have to take something from.

Consequently, this outlook from Farke should instil confidence amongst the fanbase. Beating Brentford would be massive.
