Three Manchester United players are in contention for an England call-up for the March internationals as Thomas Tuchel prepares his players for the World Cup. The players in contention are Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo.
It could be argued that Thomas Tuchel has had little reason until now to call up any players from Manchester United.
The first half of the season was topsy-turvy and led to Ruben Amorim’s dismissal at the beginning of January.
Since then, United’s form has improved drastically, and Tuchel could pick up to three players from Michael Carrick’s team for his upcoming squad announcement.
Should Kobbie Mainoo be in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup?
After recent form, will Thomas Tuchel be convinced?

Harry Maguire has been one of England’s most reliable players
At the age of 33, Maguire has been a remarkable servant to the England national team.
The experienced centre-back was one of Gareth Southgate’s most trusted lieutenants, but he has not had a look-in under Tuchel as the German coach has preferred younger defenders like Marc Guehi.
Having previously represented England at European Championships and World Cups, it would be a mistake for Tuchel to overlook how important Maguire could be this summer.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw bring experience
Like Maguire, Shaw has played at several major tournaments for England in previous years. The left back can also play in a back three, which shows he can still be a valuable asset in the Three Lions set-up.
Tuchel could lean on the experience of Maguire and Shaw if he calls them up. This also shows the pool of talent the former Chelsea manager is working with ahead of the World Cup.
It’s a privileged position for any coach to be in.
Kobbie Mainoo is the future of English football
Having played in a European Championship final at a young age, it shouldn’t need explaining that Mainoo is the future of English football.
It has been a difficult season for the young midfielder, who is now enjoying some of his best form yet in a United shirt under Carrick.
Tuchel has an array of midfield options, but Mainoo should be going to the World Cup ahead of Jordan Henderson.
Man Utd warrant representation in the England national team
United have been in terrific form since the beginning of 2026 and Tuchel cannot overlook it anymore.
Not only are United winning matches consistently, but the English players are performing at a high level.
Maguire has been a rock at the back, Mainoo has rejuvenated the midfield and Shaw is a consistent performer whenever he plays.

Keep the squad competitive
Tuchel has a chance to shake things up with his March squad announcement.
After previously overlooking United players, he can shake things up by reintroducing Maguire, Shaw and Mainoo.
This will keep the squad competitive and on their toes ahead of the World Cup.
