West Ham in race for signature of 24-year-old Argentine defender as potential Disasi replacement

West Ham United have been transformed defensively since the arrival of Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea.

The French centre-back has helped to stabilize a backline that had been leaking goals earlier in the season.

However, with the Hammers’ budget potentially unable to meet Chelsea’s price for a permanent deal, West Ham are already planning for alternative options in the summer transfer window.

One name now reportedly on their radar is 24-year-old Argentine defender Kevin Lomónaco, who currently plays for Club Atlético Independiente and is attracting attention from across Europe.

According to Boca Noticias, West Ham are among several clubs keeping a close eye on Lomónaco, with Crystal Palace, Sevilla, VfL Wolfsburg, and even Boca Juniors monitoring his progress.

Interest from the Hammers isn’t new, as they were linked with him last year, and the 24-year-old has continued to impress in the Argentine top flight.

While Atlético Mineiro and Panathinaikos had previously tried to secure his signature, no deal was reached.

Lomónaco now has a €13.1 million release clause in his contract, which runs until December 2028, making him a realistic summer target for London clubs.

Lomonaco Could Step In if Disasi Leaves

Should West Ham fail to strike a permanent deal for Disasi, Lomónaco could represent an affordable alternative to maintain their defensive solidity.

The Argentine is reportedly on the verge of earning a senior national team call-up, and his versatility and composure at the back would make him a strong candidate to slot straight into Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.

While it would be a blow to lose Disasi, targeting Lomónaco gives West Ham a potential solution that balances quality with financial prudence—an important consideration as they aim to solidify their Premier League status ahead of next season.
