Man United could be set for a transfer boost as one of their former stars could join Atletico Madrid.

Man United’s recent transfer strategy has improved, as the Red Devils are paying good money for proven players, rather than young talents who don’t live up to their initial price tags.

The likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were excellent additions in the summer transfer window, and it seems that the Man United ownership are beginning to make some more informed financial decisions.

A boost on top of that is that they are potentially going to get some more money from a sale from 2024, as one of their former players could make a blockbuster move to Atletico Madrid.

Man United could get a major Greenwood windfall

This season, Greenwood has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and providing eight assists. He has been one of the best attackers in Ligue 1, and so, it is no surprise that Greenwood is attracting attention from elsewhere.

According to TeamTalk, Atletico Madrid are plotting a move to sign Greenwood in the summer, as they are looking for a long-term replacement for Julian Alvarez, who could leave in the summer transfer window.

The report says that when United sold Greenwood to Marseille, they negotiated a 50% sell-on clause, which means that the Red Devils will receive half of whatever Marseille sell him for. Considering his market value is now £43m, and it’s only increasing, it could mean that United get a lot more back for Greenwood, especially more than they sold him for in 2024.

Man United also set to get £70m from Rashford and Hojlund

United are expecting to receive around £30m in total for Rashford, with a base fee of £26m agreed as a buy option for the La Liga club. It is understood that Barcelona want to sign him for less, but United aren’t planning to negotiate the pre-agreed deal from last summer.

Furthermore, Napoli are set to sign Hojlund for £50m in the summer after an impressive first year at the Serie A club. That means that Man United could get over £70m in windfall from both Hojlund and Rashford, which will further boost their transfer budget alongside any potential Greenwood sale.

It could mean that United have a healthy transfer budget to work with in the summer, which might be able to fund a squad that could become legitimate title contenders under Michael Carrick or someone else.
