Rayan has what it takes to cope with Brazil pressure - 'a good thing he is so young'

The 19-year-old received his first call up to the country’s senior side this week, with Iraola saying it was a “remarkable” achievement.

He said it was confirmation that he had been able to replicate what he had been doing with Vasco da Gama in the Premier League, and it will be a good opportunity for him to impress Carlo Ancelotti.

Asked if Rayan has what it takes to handle the pressure of international football for one of the giants of the global game, Iraola said: “I think he has a very good thing that he's so young, he's 19, that probably he doesn't realize what he's doing.

“There is a little bit of, when you are young, like unconsciousness, that is very good.

“Probably when you become older and you start overthinking everything, you feel more the pressure.

“But when you are 19 and everything is arriving like naturally, and this— probably he doesn't see it as special now, and he doesn't look affected by these things.

“I see him obviously very happy, but I don't think he gets too affected by this pressure, these good critics in this case, and I hope he continues like this because there is a good part in this.”

Iraola also praised the forward’s maturity for his age.

“I think he comes, I said it before, from a big club in Brazil,” he said.

“He's used to pressure, he's used to be very analysed. And I think his integration has been really good.

“Obviously, it's going to be better when he understands the language, when he knows better the teammates, when we also know him better so we can put him in the best positions.

“But I think from, let's say, the first two months he has been here have been really good.”
