Cherries must be "ruthless" and improve mentality in front of goal - Iraola

The Red Devils visit Dean Court tonight, with Bournemouth heading back home after a goalless draw at Burnley last weekend.

That 0-0 followed 0-0s against West Ham and Brentford, and a 1-1 draw with Sunderland as Iraola’s side have taken four points from the past four.

While it has extended their unbeaten run to ten games, there is some frustration that they have been unable to convert chances and take more from that run of games.

They have become much more solid at the back and while they create chances, they have been poor at converting those, creating more than seven expected goals in the past four games but only scoring once.

Iraola knows they’ll have to score potentially multiple goals if they are to beat their visitors, and goals were not a problem for either team last time the two met in their 4-4 draw in December.

“About the chances, I think we have to be a little bit more ruthless,” he told the Daily Echo.

“Sometimes we are a team that normally arrives a lot, so you miss one chance and you think, okay, we'll score the next one.

“Maybe there is no next one. It doesn't matter, the other day, first minute. You need to score this one because maybe it's the best one we will have.

“It's like some mentality thing that you have to value every shot you have from the edge and this is sometimes a mentality thing.

“It's not just the technical finishing, no, it has to go on target, and these things I think we definitely need to improve because I think we were talking about the last games, I think, where we've got to really good positions and our percentage on target has been really low.

“Really, really low comparing to the rest of the season. So there is something there probably of give importance to every finish, because maybe you don't have more. And I hope we consider this, yes.”

But the boss is optimistic heading into the United game thanks to their strong record against them.

“I remember all our games against United and I think every game has been good or even better,” he said.

“So I hope we can continue tomorrow. Probably we face them in the strongest moment they've been in our time here.

“But normally it has been a good matchup for us. And there are reasons for sure. The same when we struggle against Brentford or I think against other teams, I think we've done really well.

“I hope we can continue tomorrow.”
