Sam Allardyce thinks Man Utd may have avoided having Mo Salah situation on their hands over contract stance

Sam Allardyce has insisted that Manchester United must avoid the ‘trap’ Liverpool fell into with Mohamed Salah when it comes to potentially keeping Casemiro at Old Trafford.

Mohamed Salah committed his future to Manchester United’s arch-rivals during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign after months of speculation around his future.

The 32-year-old winger inked a deal until 2027 after being linked with Saudi Arabia, with Salah being a key part of the Reds’ Premier League title win in 2025.

However, Salah’s form and impact have been brought into question in the 2025-26 campaign and Sam Allardyce linked his contract situation to Casemiro’s position.

Fill in the blank with your offer. Casemiro earns around £350k/week right now. Will you go high or walk away?

Sam Allardyce on Casemiro and his Man Utd future amid his remarks around Mohamed Salah and Liverpool

Casemiro’s exit from Manchester United has been announced and the 34-year-old veteran midfielder will leave Old Trafford at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

The United star had a 12-month extension available in his current contract at the club, but the Red Devils have opted not to trigger the option this season.

Casemiro, much like Mohamed Salah, has been linked with Saudi Arabia amid the five-time Champions League winner deeply impressing in the 2025-26 campaign.

Sam Allardyce hailed the “tremendous” turnaround in form by Casemiro in the tail end of his Red Devils spell, but he doesn’t think United should convince him to stay.

“I think he’s finishing this season off and he’s done tremendous in terms of how he’s performing at this moment in time,” he said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

“But think what they’re going to have to pay him, I mean, he’d be one of the highest salaries at Manchester United.”

Sam Allardyce sends Man Utd a warning about Casemiro by using Mohamed Salah’s recent Liverpool run as an example

Casemiro has netted an impressive seven times and registered two assists in 29 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils this season.

The ex-Real Madrid ace carries hefty wages at Old Trafford, but some United fans have flirted with the hope of keeping Casemiro for another campaign at the club.

Allardyce argued that the spotlight that has been placed on Salah for Liverpool in the 2025-26 campaign could be the same for Casemiro if he does stay at Man Utd.

“And his age is against him,” he said.

“And, is he playing that well because he’s out of contract? You can see it as a criticism. Mo Salah did the same, didn’t he?

“I had it at Bolton, playing out of their skin, got a new contract and then you think, ‘What’s happened to him?’ So, it can happen.”

Salah is believed to have kept his £350,000-per-week wages at Liverpool after he inked his new deal, while Casemiro is reportedly on the same amount at United.
