It means physical cards will no longer be in use, apart from those who are exempt and not able to access a season ticket via a smartphone.

The Clarets say digital ticketing brings: enhanced security, quicker and smoother entry into Turf Moor and an improved “transfer process” making it easier to legally share tickets.

“Digital ticketing is an important and exciting step in our efforts to improve the overall fan experience of all of our supporters,” the club said in a statement.

“For our fans, this means that your digital season ticket will be managed through your Burnley FC ticketing account and accessible on your smartphone, making it easier than ever to manage your matchday.”

Season tickets will be automatically delivered to supporters via email ahead of next season and can be managed via your club account from your desktop or mobile device.

“We are working hard to improve the fan journey for all our supporters and would like to provide our fans with sufficient time to become familiar with their new digital ticket journey,” the club added.

“We will be offering ticket journey tutorials and our ticket office and supporter services team will be more than happy to help as questions arise.”

Exemptions are available for: registered disabled supporters, seniors aged 70 and over and juniors aged under 14.

However, these will be managed on a “case by case basis”, the club states, to ensure Clarets fans are “not disadvantaged by the move away from physical season cards”.

Supporters who require a physical season ticket and meet the aforementioned requirements must apply via an online form on the club website. But submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

The deadline for applications is June 1.
