How Jason Wilcox feels about Man Utd signing £69m Premier League star - Journalist

Manchester United’s interest in signing Bruno Guimaraes is the main transfer talking point around Old Trafford right now.

The Newcastle United captain would be a painful loss for the Magpies, but with reports indicating Manchester United are in advanced talks, it could be a reality.

Of course, the deal isn’t guaranteed, with Newcastle surprised by Bruno Guimaraes rumours, which again could suggest that the talks are player and United.

Either way, Guimaraes absolutely seems to be on the table for United this summer.

Jason Wilcox is behind Manchester United’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes

Casemiro has recommended Guimaraes as his replacement, and now it’s emerged via Ben Jacobs, speaking to The United Stand, that Jason Wilcox is another big advocate.

“My information is that Manchester United are interested in Bruno Guimaraes. That has been driven specifically by Jason Wilcox, and there have been some talks on the player side, but there haven’t been any talks yet with Newcastle United.

“So I suppose it depends on how you define advance. In my reporting, I say advanced talks after clubs clubs have started, and when it escalates towards a direction of travel of an agreement over fee, we’re nowhere near that point yet.”

With Wilcox specifically driving the interest in Guimaraes, it can be assumed that a deal is actually quite likely considering he is the king-maker right now in his role as director of football.

Interestingly, Jacobs added that Guimaraes and United linked Sandro Tonali are effectively fighting against eachother right now to get a big move.

Both have their camps making the availability known, and both are aware that Newcastle will only allow one of the two to leave, so it’s a race for each to get a move lined up first.

Which Newcastle player would you want Manchester United to sign the most?💰

United have been linked with Tonali, Gordon, Thiaw, Hall and Guimarães. But which makes most sense?

Manchester United were also keen on Guimaraes in 2025

A move to sign Guimaraes has become possible with Newcastle looking unlikely to play Champions League football next season, while United are good value to qualify.

This is the opposite from last summer, when United were also linked with Guimaraes, but no Champions League impacted the budget to spend and a midfielder was missed out on.

However, midfield is this summer’s one major priority as we expect two first-team level signings in the position to bolster a position which has been underinvested in for well over a decade.

But Ineos have shown reason to trust them in the transfer window, and so next season might finally see a midfield which is perfectly configured.
