Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno admits he dreams of playing in Spain, despite his current focus being on helping the club to avoid relegation.
The Spanish full-back has spoken to EFE in Spain, relayed by Mundo Deportivo. He was candid about a possible move to Spain and how Wolves’ fate this season could shape his future.
What Bueno said about Spain
Bueno was clear about his ambition to play in La Liga, having come through at Areosa before joining Wolves U19 in 2019. He has, to date, never played in his homeland as a result.
He has, though, played for Spain at U18 and U21 level. And it seems he’d like to play in La Liga at some point if he can.
“Yes, it’s something I would really love,” he said about the possibility.
“If I get the chance, I’d be delighted to enjoy their football, which is some of the best in the world, and return to my country.”
He balanced that desire with praise for his current surroundings, adding that he is happy at Wolves and values the Premier League experience.
On relegation and his short‑term focus
Wolves
Relegation this summer, would likely increase the chances of a summer exit from Wolves.
Rob Edwards’ side currently sit bottom of the Premier League, 12 points from safety with seven games left to play.
The club already started clearing the decks at Molineux in January, something Bueno has already admitted he did not agree with. When asked whether relegation would increase the likelihood of a summer exit, Bueno kept his head down and his priorities straight.
“It’s difficult to answer right now because we’re still fighting,” he added.
“I’m focused on avoiding relegation, which we know is very difficult, and then we’ll see what happens in the summer.”
What this means for Wolves and transfer talk
Hugo Bueno’s comments come across as a measured mix of ambition and professionalism. His openness about Spain will undoubtedly fuel transfer speculation if Wolves slip into the Championship as expected.
But for now, his words read as a respectful nod to future possibilities rather than an immediate plea to leave. The coming months will determine whether his desire becomes a talking point.
Bueno has certainly planted a seed with his genuine desire to play in Spain. But for now, his focus remains on the slime chances of Wolves staying up.
