Bruno Guimaraes to Man Utd? – Eddie Howe’s fiery response to Newcastle “nonsense”

Newcastle United fans are getting comfy in their Recaro seats and fastening their five-point harnesses as they brace themselves for a bumpy ride ahead of the next transfer window.

It feels like the media loves to try to unsettle Newcastle’s big players by releasing endless waves of transfer rumours, most of which have very little truth to them, but they make a good story anyway.

This week, Bruno Guimaraes was reported as being in ‘advanced talks’ over a £69 million move to Manchester United.

Thankfully, more trustworthy sources with actual connections inside Newcastle were quick to shut down those claims, but just to be sure, Eddie Howe has done the same today.

Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Howe was asked on two separate occasions about the Bruno rumours, and both times the Newcastle gaffer was very clear with his messaging.

In a fair but fiery response, Howe described the Man Utd links as “nonsense” and “totally disrespectful” to our captain, insisting the skipper is “totally committed” to Newcastle United.

“I don’t even know how to respond to that, I don’t even think I should because it’s a waste of my energy.

“Bruno’s our captain, he’s fully committed, he’s injured at the moment, his only focus is coming back to fitness.”

“For me, it’s a nonsense story. It’s unwanted news. You don’t want your players distracted. It’s not the time to think about that.

“In the summer, you can sort of understand those stories a little bit more, as the transfer window is open.

“But to say our captain is in discussions with another club is totally disrespectful to Bruno more than anything else.

“He is totally committed here.”

A lot about that story linking Bruno with Manchester United didn’t make sense to us, not least the price being quoted, but it’s good to have confirmation from Howe that it was sheer nonsense.

Bruno leaving Newcastle may happen at some point. In fact, it will happen at some point, but we 100% believe that when he does go, he’ll move abroad. We’re pretty adamant he’s not going to go to another Premier League side.

Bruno Guimaraes is about as Geordie as you can be without being born in the region. He wouldn’t betray us like that, and I don’t think the club would sanction such a deal, especially not to Man Utd; a ‘big six’ rival who’ve done their best not to help us out in the past!
