Rotherham United hopeful Leeds United loanee blow will only be a short-term one

Harry Gray is back at Leeds United for treatment on a hamstring injury, but Rotherham United manager Lee Clark is hoping to have the loanee back for the final block of eight League One games this season.

With the Millers' scheduled match at Luton Town postponed during the international break, Clark's first game in charge at Lincoln City is a bit of an outlier, with an important two-week break before his spell starts in earnest.

Gray missed Matt Hamshaw's final game in charge – a 5-0 defeat at Peterborough United – and will also sit out Clark’s first, but he hopes to have him back for Stevenage at home on Good Friday.

Not having the raw but talented 17-year-old around for his first couple of days has more plusses than minuses for Clark.

"It's a very common practice with loan players, especially when you're dealing with young ones," he said. "Harry can benefit from the medical facilities at his own Premier League club, especially with Leeds just being down the road.

"We're hopeful on Harry being available for the next group of matches after Saturday, which will be a big boost.

"He's a very exciting young player who comes from great pedigree. I'm looking forward to Harry returning with, hopefully, a few others after the weekend.

"Injuries have blighted the season.

"When I came in on Thursday morning, I saw probably as many players in the medical room as there are available for selection.

"But we know the personnel for Saturday. Hopefully, players can come back for the remaining eight games after that and then help us get the job done."
