Man Utd should have traded £66m duo for Champions League star, it should be Ineos' biggest regret

Manchester United were linked with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia but ended up missing out on the Georgian star.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia starred in the Champions League this week, scoring in a 3-0 win over Chelsea in the round of 16.

The 25-year-old now has seven goals and four assists in the Champions League this season, and Manchester United chiefs may be kicking themselves for not pushing harder for his signature.

United were showing interest in Kvaratskhelia in late 2024 and reports even suggested that a player trade with Napoli could have been on the cards.

Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho should have been involved in Kvaratskhelia deal

Marcus Rashford ended up joining Aston Villa in the 2025 January transfer window, but there were reports that Rashford could have been swapped for Kvaratskhelia.

Napoli also showed interest in Alejandro Garnacho as a replacement for the outgoing Kvaratskhelia.

Eventually, Kvaratskhelia made a £59m move to PSG and United were left emptyhanded. Rashford and Garnacho then made summer moves to Barcelona and Chelsea respectively.

Rashford is set to be sold for £26m as per the buy option in his Barcelona deal, while Garnacho was sold for £40m to Chelsea.

In hindsight, Ineos would probably go back and include both in deal for Kvaratskhelia given his success in Paris so far.

Kvaratskhelia went on to win the quadruple with PSG, playing a pivotal role in their Champions League success.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would have solved Man Utd left wing issue

Michael Carrick has confirmed that United will target a new left winger in the upcoming summer window.

With Champions League football coming back to Old Trafford next season – provided a top-five finish is on the cards – United will need extra strength and depth up front.

United have been linked to Yan Diomande as a potential winger option, but Ineos must be kicking themselves for not going all in on Kvaratskhelia when he was available.

The Georgian star would have been a fantastic addition to this United squad, and would have been a major upgrade on Rashford and Garnacho.
