Mario Gila
Lazio’s Mario Gila finds his future uncertain due to a situation around his contract. Aston Villa are being pushed a destination for the Spaniard.
The defender has been a consistent figure at the back for the Rome side.
They have been through some difficult times since he joined but Gila has remained a rock, also emerging as a leader.
A former Real Madrid player, he’s shown an ability to play in midfield, when Maurizio Sarri’s side faced an injury crisis earlier in the summer.
Earlier this month,Sport Witness covered TuttoSport’s mention of Aston Villa as a suitor for the centre-back.
It now seems like the idea is being pushed again, with Lazio in favour of a sale.
Big money move eyed
Corriere dello Sport today report that the summer could be a decisive point in Gila’s career. His current contract in Rome runs out in 2027, with Lazio now keen on a summer sale.
The player is certain he will not sign a new deal, with Aston Villa mentioned as a suitor. Interest from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan is also mentioned.
There is belief a €30m figure could prove enough for Lazio, with the race increasingly heated. That amount will be more than enough, especially considering his contract situation.
Milan are likely to be a leading candidate in the race too. Rossoneri sporting director Igli Tare saw him from close at Lazio and remains keen on reuniting.
Corriere dello Sport’s headline reads: ‘Aston Villa considering Gila: €30m”
Within the article, it’s stated: ‘Aston Villa are the most interested, ready to put around €30m on the table. A significant sum, which Lazio would still have to share 50% with the “merengue” club, but which, if confirmed, would remain difficult to ignore.
‘Furthermore, Chelsea is reportedly moving in the background, ready to join an increasingly heated race. In short, there are many suitors and a future still to be written. But the feeling is that Gila’s fate is now far from Rome.’
Auction being pushed
Mario Gila
Lazio are no strangers to pushing auctions for their players. They did similar for Taty Castellanos and Matteo Guendouzi in January, when they were desperate needs for funds.
Even now, their financial situation isn’t great. They would love to earn as much as possible from Gila’s sale. Linking a Premier League side like Aston Villa would be incredible for them, especially if Unai Emery’s side offer anywhere around €30m in the summer.
