Serie A leaders Roma dropped two points in their home meeting with Fiorentina, allowing title rivals Inter to close the gap at the top to four points.
Meanwhile, AC Milan edged out Juventus in another crucial result on Serie A match-day 16. Here’s how the latest action unfolded in Italy’s top flight.
Roma settle for point
Roma had to settle for a share of the spoils in their home clash against Fiorentina.
Madelen Janogy slid the ball in from Emma Lombardi’s low ball to give Fiorentina a narrow lead at the break. The visitors held on to their slender advantage until the 77th minute when youngster Giulia Galli headed home from Manuela Giugliano’s looping corner. The 17-year-old’s first senior goal rescued a point for the leaders, extending their unbeaten run to 11 league matches.
Inter boost title hopes
However, Roma’s failure to claim maximum points opened the door for Inter to reduce the gap at the top to four points with six games left to play. The second-placed side made light work of Monday’s away clash against relegation-threatened Sassuolo.
Inter captain Henrietta Csiszár opened the scoring in the 17th minute, turning the ball home after latching onto Haley Bugeja’s well-weighted pass. Tessa Wullaert made sure of the three points with a late brace in Sassuolo, taking her to the top of the Serie A scoring charts with 11 goals.
Juventus fall short on Serie A match-day 16
Juventus’ fading hopes of retaining their Serie A crown were effectively ended by Sunday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to AC Milan. The reigning Italian champions were presented with the chance to open the scoring when Kay-Lee de Sanders gave away a penalty in first-half stoppage time. However, Emma Godo failed to capitalise on the golden opportunity, seeing her penalty superbly saved by Sandra Estévez on her Serie A debut.
Shortly after the half-time interval, Thea Kyvåg scored what proved to be the only goal of the match. The attacker fired a bouncing shot in off the far post after being teed up by Christy Grimshaw’s flick-on. Juventus remain in third spot following the defeat, but they are just a point clear of Lazio in fourth position.

Lazio see off Napoli
Lazio extended their unbeaten run to six league matches with a narrow 1-0 win over fellow top-three hopefuls Napoli. Margherita Monnecchi broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, just 60 seconds after replacing Antonietta Castiello. The 24-year-old produced a first-time finish from Elisabetta Oliviero’s cut-back, firing a first-time shot through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Spoils share in relegation clash
Meanwhile, basement side Genoa remain three points adrift of 11th-placed Parma after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Parma’s Iris Rabot opened the scoring midway through the first half, getting across her marker to head in from Gaia Distefano’s deep cross. Genoa’s Valery Vigilucci restored parity just past the hour mark, powering a header in from Alessandra Massa’s inviting delivery. That ultimately proved to be the final goal of a crucial match at the bottom of the table.
As for Ternana, they picked up a useful point in their survival bid. The ninth-placed side played out a goalless draw with Como, who were reduced to 10 players when Agnete Marcussen was dismissed for two bookable offences in stoppage time.

Genoa’s draw with Parma represented just the second point they have picked up in eight Serie A away matches this season.
Best goal of Serie A match-day 16
There were not too many efforts to choose from over a weekend that produced nine goals across six matches. That said, we have picked Kyvåg’s effort against Juventus as the standout strike of the weekend, largely due to the importance of the strike in the context of a fierce race for the third and final UWCL spot.
