James Garner has received his first England call-up. The 24-year-old has impressed for Everton this season, scoring in the opening game at Hill Dickinson and featuring in every match for the Blues.
Garner's versatility has been vital for Everton, as the former Manchester United player has excelled at full-back, boosting his chances of featuring at this summer's World Cup.
David Moyes is delighted that Garner has been called up.
"Thrilled for Jimmy. He's played well enough to be selected, absolutely. He's been very good this season."
The Midfielder has scored two goals and registered four assists in 30 games. Moyes also highlighted the progression Garner has shown this season.
"I think he's matured a lot more and gained a lot more confidence. I don't think it was ever in doubt that he was always a good player.
I think to step up to the level of required to be an international player, you really have to show good things, and probably more importantly for him is the level of competition to get in.
"So great credit to him and great for Everton Football Club as well."
When speaking to the press about his squad selection, England manager Thomas Tuchel labelled Garner as 'underrated' and has been impressed when he's watched the 24-year-old.
The German also mentioned his versatility, stating he can play 'several positions'.
Garner has featured at right-back on numerous occasions for the Blues and has looked composed. The midfielder also starred there in 2023 when he was a part of the England Under-21s squad, which beat Spain in the U21S European Championship.
The Everton boss also highlighted how useful his versatility is.
"I think he's probably a number eight, but really, there might be a feature for Jimmy to be a number six, as well. I think he can do both of those jobs.
"He's done brilliantly well when he's had to fill in a full-back."
