“Incredible” West Ham star backed to leave club this summer: “There will be demand…”

West Ham United face a huge test this weekend as they travel to Villa Park knowing a positive result could be pivotal in their fight for Premier League survival.

Victory over Aston Villa, combined with favourable results elsewhere, could lift the Hammers out of the relegation zone for the first time since early December.

However, history is not on their side, with West Ham having not beaten Villa since August 2022.

And ahead of this crucial clash, attention has already begun to shift toward the summer — with one of the club’s standout performers tipped for a potential exit if things go wrong.

Crysencio Summerville’s outstanding form has not gone unnoticed, and there is growing expectation that West Ham could struggle to keep hold of him.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson has warned that there will be significant interest in the winger, particularly if the Hammers are relegated. Speaking to Football Insider, he suggested a worst-case scenario could see a “fire sale” at the London Stadium.

Summerville — previously labelled “incredible” by Nedum Onuoha — has been central to West Ham’s improved performances in recent months. The Dutchman has scored five goals in his last eight Premier League appearances, playing a key role in dragging the club back into the survival fight.

“I think he’s a player that there will be demand for,” Borson said. “But the key for West Ham, as for Spurs, in terms of the summer is what division are they in.”

Financial Troubles Could Also Force Decision

Borson also highlighted that relegation may not be the only factor influencing Summerville’s future, with West Ham’s financial situation another concern.

The club’s latest accounts revealed a drop in revenue from £270 million to £228 million, alongside a pre-tax loss of £104 million — a stark contrast to the previous year’s £57 million profit.

As a result, difficult decisions could lie ahead regardless of league status.

“If they stay in the Premier League, they’re going to have the same sorts of conversations that they have every season about whether they need either cash in from the shareholders or whether they need to sell a footballer,” Borson explained.

“The conversation with the shareholders obviously will be much easier if they’re in the Premier League and much harder if they’re not.”

Summerville has been one of the few shining lights in a turbulent season for West Ham, but his performances may come at a cost.

Whether it is relegation or financial pressure, the Hammers could be forced into a difficult decision this summer. If they are to keep hold of their “incredible” star, securing Premier League survival may prove absolutely crucial — otherwise, interest from rival clubs could quickly turn into firm offers that are too good to refuse.
