West Ham have not yet reached a final call on Tomas Soucek’s future, despite the midfielder entering the final stages of his current deal.
Since arriving from Slavia Prague in 2020, Soucek has been a consistent presence in the Hammers’ midfield. He has racked up over 270 appearances, contributing 46 goals and 13 assists, and played a key role in the club’s Europa Conference League triumph in 2022/23.
Despite his importance over the years, uncertainty now surrounds his long-term future. Reports have suggested a new contract may not be offered, with the possibility of a summer sale being considered instead.
However, iSport reports that no discussions have yet taken place between the club and Soucek’s representatives — highlighting how West Ham’s immediate focus remains firmly on securing Premier League survival before addressing contract situations.
Relegation Could Decide Soucek’s Future
West Ham’s league status is expected to play a decisive role in what happens next.
Currently sitting 18th and level on points with Nottingham Forest, the Hammers are still deep in the relegation battle. Dropping into the Championship would significantly impact finances, forcing the club to reassess wages and squad structure.
Soucek’s own form has dipped compared to previous seasons, and that — combined with his current salary — could make him a difficult player to retain if the club’s income takes a hit. In the event of relegation, wage reductions would likely come into play, potentially complicating any renewal talks further.
The midfielder signed a four-year extension back in 2023, which also includes an option for an additional year. West Ham are yet to activate that clause, with a final decision expected later in the season once their league position is confirmed.
Soucek — once hailed as “brilliant” by journalist Joshua Mbu — has been a hugely important player for West Ham over the past few years, but his future is now far from certain.
With contract talks yet to begin and the club’s Premier League status still hanging in the balance, a decision appears to be on hold. Whether he stays, signs a new deal, or moves on this summer will likely depend on how the Hammers finish the season — making the coming weeks crucial both for the team and for one of their longest-serving stars.
