Manchester United twice let a lead slip on the south coast as they drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, with Harry Maguire sent off in a dramatic second half.

It had been an entertaining first half despite the lack of goals. United threatened regularly and Bruno Fernandes went closest when his volley was saved by Djordje Petrovic.

Fernandes made no mistake in the second half. Matheus Cunha won a penalty and the captain sent Petrovic the wrong way from the spot, but the lead was short-lived.

United felt they should have had another penalty when Amad was pushed over, but Bournemouth countered and Ryan Christie produced a clever finish from 16 yards, only for United to respond immediately, with James Hill getting the final touch on Fernandes' corner.

The drama wasn't finished there. A fourth goal in less than 20 minutes arrived when Harry Maguire was sent off for a foul on Evanilson and Junior Kroupi scored the penalty.

Here are how the United players rated at the Vitality Stadium:

Senne Lammens: Made some smart saves with the minimum of fuss and played it safe with his distribution. Confident when Bournenouth chucked the ball into the box. 7

Diogo Dalot: Managed to hit the roof of the stand with a first-half shot and played his team into trouble with a poor pass, but did get forward well. A real mixed bag. 6

Leny Yoro: Read the game well as Bournemouth strung passes together around the edge of the area and continues to grow in confidence in a back four. 7

Harry Maguire: Had enjoyed a good game until the red card. Might feel it was soft and United will feel it was similar to the penalty they were denied on Amad, but was beaten by Evanilson. 5

Luke Shaw: Rayan is going to cause many a left-back problems in the Premier League, and his pace and physicality meant Shaw had a difficult time of it. 6

Casemiro: Booked for a first-half foul and not at his best. Bournemouth began to find some space around him and he looked short of a yard. 5

Kobbie Mainoo: Can see why he is back in the England squad on this form. Showed that footwork in tight corners on a couple of occasions and used the ball really well. 8

Amad: Started off very lively. Good footwork and early shot, and caused plenty of problems with the speed of his play. 7

Bruno Fernandes: Missed a glorious first-half chance on the volley and things hadn't really clicked for him, but took a brilliant penalty to edge United in front. 7

Matheus Cunha: Some incisive moments helped create dangerous attacking moments for United. Enjoyed the space he had to play in but did scuff one pass to Amad. 7

Bryan Mbeumo: Chances didn't fall to him but his movement was sharp and he did create space for others. Another game where he didn't look quite at his best. 6

Substitutes

Benjamin Sesko: United scored straight after he came on, but for once he didn't get it. 6

Ayden Heaven: Little time to make an impact. 6

Manuel Ugarte: Little time to make an impact. 6

Mason Mount: On for Amad in stoppage time. N/A

Subs not used: Bayindir, Fredricson, Malacia, T. Fletcher, Zirkzee
