Bruno Fernandes reacts to Man Utd penalty claim vs Bournemouth, makes perfect point to silence Redknapp

Manchester United dropped two points against Bournemouth on Friday night, but it wasn’t without refereeing controversy.

At the Vitality Stadium, the two sides played out another score draw as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, but the result was clouded in controversy over the officiating.

This is because both Bournemouth’s first and second goals had major questions around them for varying reasons.

Harry Maguire’s red card was valid, given he did prevent a goalscoring opportunity. But before the happened United should have been 3-0 ahead anyway.

Bruno Fernandes reacts to Amad’s penalty snubbing vs Bournemouth

At 1-0, Amad was shoved off the ball by Adrien Truffert in the box, to no penalty. This was before Bournemouth went up the other end and scored.

This was equally as justifiable a penalty as Maguire’s, if not more, because Truffert had no intention of playing the ball. After the game, Bruno Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports, sharing his annoyance over the decision.

“I think we could have gone 2-0 up, and then we ended up conceding a goal, not getting a penalty and then we got a penalty against, where more or less it’s the same situation as Amad.

“One is rewarded as a penalty, the other one is not. I know it’s difficult for the referee to give two penalties in the same game for the same team, but what I don’t understand is why VAR doesn’t get involved in that situation.

“Either one is a penalty, and the other one too, or none of them is a penalty.”

Both situations were identical, and therefore, it’s baffling that one was given and the other was not, so Fernandes is spot on.

On punditry for Sky Sports, Redknapp was discussing the penalties and completely contradicted himself.

Redknapp first suggested the decision around Amad was correct.

“I think it would have been incredibly harsh. You can see Truffert is being aggressive with him.

“He does sort of man-handle him a bit, but I just don’t think it’s enough for it to be a penalty.”

But then claimed Maguire’s sending off was understandable, despite it being the exact same situation.

“It’s extremely harsh, but I can understand why he’s given it.”

This complete contradiction goes against logic, as both were identical, and so arguing one was more blatant than the other is ridiculous, and Fernandes has shut this down with his reaction.
