7 confirmed out of Newcastle United v Sunderland - plus major updates on Sandro Tonali & Dan…

Newcastle United latest news: Both Newcastle United and Sunderland have a number of injury concerns to deal with ahead of their meeting at St James’ Park on Sunday (12pm kick-off).

There is also the small matter of local pride at stake and the chance for the Magpies to avenge their bitterly disappointing defeat at the Stadium of Light back in December. Eddie Howe’s side head into Sunday’s game on the back of a very disappointing second half display against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, but with successive Premier League victories over Chelsea and Manchester United.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have faltered in recent weeks and do not enjoy a good away record this season. However, they have already tasted victory over their local rivals this season and will head to Tyneside with hope of completing a Premier League double - despite missing a number of key players through injury.

Here, we take a look at the latest injury news affecting both camps ahead of the Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Sunderland at St James’ Park.

Sunderland injury news v Newcastle United

Bertrand Traore - out

The former Chelsea winger will not feature this weekend. Traore has a knee injury and has missed their last two outings in all competitions.

Jocelin Ta Bi - out

Ta Bi has played twice for Sunderland since joining in January but is not expected to feature this weekend at St James’ Park.

Romaine Mundle - out

A hamstring injury will keep Mundle out of action this weekend.

Angulo is another of Sunderland’s January signings that will not feature this weekend because of injury.

Robin Roefs - doubt

Roefs kept a clean sheet in the reverse fixture in December but may not feature this weekend.

Nordi Mukiele - doubt

Mukiele is also a doubt this weekend. The Frenchman has missed Sunderland’s last four matches with a calf injury.

Dan Ballard - doubt

Ballard picked up a hamstring injury during Sunderland’s defeat to Brighton last weekend. He is regarded as a doubt to feature this weekend.

Enzo Le Fee - doubt

Le Fee is also an injury doubt for this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby.

Newcastle United injury news v Sunderland

Fabian Schar - out

Schar suffered an ankle ligament injury against Leeds United in January and has been ruled-out of action for the foreseeable future. He may return to action next month if his recovery goes as planned.

Emil Krafth - out

Krafth has undergone surgery on a knee injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Bruno Guimaraes - out

Guimaraes suffered an injury late on against Spurs last month and has not been seen in action since. It has since been revealed that the Brazilian will miss a substantial amount of matches and is not expected to return to action until after the next international break. An estimated eight to ten weeks on the sidelines will keep Guimaraes out of action until April.

Lewis Miley - doubt

Miley hasn’t featured since their draw with PSG in January with a leg injury continuing to keep him sidelined. There is hope that he can return to action against Sunderland although any appearance will more than likely come from the bench if he is to play.

Sandro Tonali - doubt

Tonali was substituted at the Camp Nou after picking up a groin injury. Howe revealed on Friday morning that Tonali’s injury wasn’t as bad as first feared and that there is hope he can feature this weekend.
