Forget Maguire: Carrick needs to axe 'off the boil' Man Utd star immediately after Bournemouth…

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth on Friday night, and Michael Carrick might have some decisions to make in terms of his team selection going forward.

United opened the scoring in the first half as Bruno Fernandes struck from the penalty spot after Matheus Cunha was brought down inside the box.

The Cherries struck back just six minutes later as Ryan Christie fired home, just seconds after the Red Devils were denied a penalty on Amad Diallo.

United then found themselves back in front as Fernandes' corner was headed into his own net by James Hill, but the Cherries were given the chance to equalise as another penalty was awarded.

Eli Junior Kroupi then dispatched from 12 yards following a red-card challenge from Harry Maguire in the box, with the game ending in a stalemate.

Carrick Has Mbeumo Decision to Make at Man Utd

Mbeumo enjoyed an impressive start to life at United in his opening few months at the club following his move from Brentford during the previous summer transfer window.

In recent months, and particularly under Carrick, Mbeumo has struggled, regularly brought off for another summer signing, Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has been on fire off the bench for United in recent weeks, and despite his regular goalscoring, Carrick has often preferred Mbeumo as the central striker.

The Cameroonian international, described as being 'off the boil', now needs a spell out of the team.

If Carrick has minimal options to replace him, then sticking with Mbeumo might make sense, but the United boss has an in-form striker on the bench who will be chomping at the bit to get a run of regular starts.

Sesko Starting Makes Complete Sense

Mbeumo is currently playing out of position at United, deployed in a centre-forward position despite spending most of his career as a winger.

He offers little presence in the box to United, and has been much more effective when deployed out wide.

Sesko is a natural centre-forward, and that's been evident in his substitute appearances, where he gives United something to aim for in the penalty area.

As mentioned, Carrick has little excuse not to make the change, and if he wants his side's form to remain on an upward trajectory, then bringing in Sesko for Mbeumo could be the answer.
