Said El-Mala
The saga around Said El-Mala continues to have fresh twists and turns, with Brighton and Hove Albion now requesting a meeting with FC Köln during the upcoming international break.
Kölner Stadt‑Anzeiger report that Brighton want a face-to-face meeting with Köln to lay the groundwork for summer transfer.
Agent change boosts Brighton optimism
According to their information, Brighton appear to have made progress for Said El-Mala behind the scenes.
The youngster recently parted ways with his agents, instead picking his family to take control of his representation.
According to BILD, they have given Brighton their word that the player would approve a move to the Amex this summer.
However, despite Brighton’s early manoeuvring, no formal offer has yet been led by Fabian Hürzeler and co. El Mala’s family have also not pushed for an exit.
Köln remain in control
Ultimately, then, Köln remain in full control. The winger is tied to a deal until 2030, and, crucially, his contract does not contain a release clause.
Brighton’s eagerness is well established; the Seagulls have been trying to make a deal happen since last summer.
They submitted a verbal offer in January but have no turned that formal as yet. A report two days ago then stated that they have reached an agreement in principal for a summer deal.
Brighton aim to get ahead of a bidding war

The competition for Said El-Mala has also been growing. A report on the 19th stated that Chelsea were ready to smash the asking price for the Köln star.
Newcastle officials were also spotted at a hotel. Then Tottenham were thrown into the mix as well.
That appears to have sparked Brighton into more action. They’re seemingly determined to hold talks to get ahead of a bidding war before it erupts.
Requesting talks during this international break is a clear sign, they’re fearful the window could get crowded fast, and they want to plant their flag before the heavyweights fully engage.
