Everything you need to know about Harry Maguire's red card and his availability for Manchester United following the sending off.

What happened: The Manchester United defender, Maguire was shown a straight red card in the 78th minute for a foul on Bournemouth striker Evanilson inside the penalty area. The referee ruled that the defender had denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity by pulling the forward down as he burst through on goal.

The sending off: The foul occurred during a 'last man' situation and resulted in a penalty, though it was deemed a professional foul rather than violent conduct. As Stuart Attwell deemed Maguire was not trying to play the ball, the double jeopardy rule did not apply, so a red card and penalty could both be given. Bournemouth substitute Eli Junior Kroupi converted the resulting spot-kick to level the game at 2-2.

Michael Carrick's reaction: Speaking after the game, the United interim head coach said: "I've not really spoken to Harry, to be honest, and I've not seen the actual incident back. I was really pleased when we went to 10 men; we saw the game out and took a point. In the end, the way it went, you can lose those games."

Maguire's social media response: Taking to Instagram after the game, Maguire shared a post which read: "So soft but that's where football is at atm and I should know better. You would think both decisions would reach the same outcome. We will be back after the break. Safe travel home Reds, your support has been unbelievable."

How many games Maguire will miss: Maguire is expected to serve a one-match suspension for the straight red card involving the denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity. This means he will miss Man United's next Premier League fixture against Leeds United on April 13 following the international break.

When Maguire will be back: Missing just one game, the 33-year-old will be back for the matches against Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool.

Match context: The dismissal was particularly costly as United had led twice during the match through Bruno Fernandes and a James Hill own goal. Playing with 10 men for the final 12 minutes plus stoppage time, Carrick's side was forced to dig in to preserve the draw.
