Harry Maguire was sent off by Stuart Atwell on Friday night for impeding Evanilson, who was in a goal-scoring position. It was a clear penalty resulting in a straight red card.
It was a game in which Manchester United felt that the referee ultimately cost them the three points. While United did draw against Bournemouth, 2-2, the decisions made by the official dictated the game.
Bruno Fernandes slammed the referee for his denial of the Amad penalty call, which was a like-for-like situation with the reason Harry Maguire was eventually shown a red card to hand Bournemouth a point.
Maguire was shown a straight red card, but despite that, he won’t serve a three-game ban.

Harry Maguire banned for one game after red card vs Bournemouth
Maguire’s game was dictated by the straight red card, with his performance good, but he should know better than to put his hands on a forward in that situation, knowing he’ll flop to the ground.
The result was a red card, which usually means a three-game ban. But Maguire will only miss one match for his straight red card.
This is because Maguire’s red was for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity rather than violent conduct, which holds the maximum three-game ban.

Maguire might have been better off trusting Senne Lammens, who had another strong showing, to step up and deny Evanilson. Opposed to conceding a soft penalty, which was always going to be given.
Three games for such an instance would have been harsh, but we can live with one if only it hadn’t seen United concede anyway and lose all chance of winning the game.

Which game will Maguire miss for Manchester United?
Maguire now won’t play another game for United for almost an entire month, as he will face the 24-day break and then the return fixture against Leeds United at Old Trafford on April 13th.
This means Maguire’s next potential outing will be for United against Chelsea on April 18th, which is a massive lay-off, which he will be unlikely to start in, given the long lay-off would effectively be like coming back from injury.
Maguire won’t play for United for 29 days, which is a shame due to United’s poor cup performance and his red card.
Maguire could play with England, which might help retain his match fitness, but realistically, we should be expecting a Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez pairing for both of these games.
