England star on the bench for Brighton vs Liverpool

Brighton vs Liverpool in the Premier League from the Amex Stadium - Saturday 12.30pm

Brighton goalkeeper may have been called up for England this week but he remains on the bench for the Seagulls as they take on Liverpool at the Amex Stadium.

It's been quite a week for Steele, 35, who yesterday was selected by Thomas Tuchel for England's 35-man squad ahead of March friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

Steele is expected to be used a “training goalkeeper” and will hope to impress ahead of this summer's World Cup.

The former Sunderland and Middlesbrough stopped has yet to play in the Premier League this season for Albion and his main job is to provide support and reliable back-up for Brighton's first choice No 1 Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton unchanged from Sunderland

Steele will take his usual spot and Verbruggen is between the sticks as head coach Fabian Hurzeler named an unchanged XI from the team that secured a 1-0 win at Sunderland last week.

It means Mats Wieffer will be at right back with centre backs Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke providing the heart of the rear-guard and the "terrier" like Ferdi Kadioglu as left back.

Hurzeler has once again gone for experience in the midfield as Pascal Gross, 34, and James Milner, 40, provid some stability and assurance, as Carlos Baleba and Yasin Ayari are on the bench.

Hurzeler also pushed forward Jack Hinshelwood as a potential England player this week and the academy graduate keeps his place in the No 10 role.

Hinshelwood has looked good of late and will hope to add some goals to his game, having missed a couple of good chances at Sunderland. Georginio is on the bench.

Diego Gomez and Yankuba Minteh will provide the threat from the flanks, but which side they operate remains to be seen. Fit-again Kaoru Mitoma takes his spot on the bench, having missed Sunderland with an ankle injury sustained against Arsenal.

Veteran striker Danny Welbeck will hope to add to his 11 goals this term as he leads the line. Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas is back in the matchday squad after missing the last two as "two or three other players trained better" than him throughout the previous weeks.

Brighton: Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Milner, Gross; Gomez, Hinshelwood, Minteh; Welbeck. Substitutes: Steele, Georginio, Baleba, Kostoulas, Boscagli, Mitoma, Ayari, De Cuyper, Veltman.
