A multi-vehicle collision was reported on the A27 westbound – at the Southerham roundabout in Lewes, this morning (Saturday, March 21).
Sussex Traffic Watch reported: “Road reported as blocked westbound. Queuing traffic from surrounding roads.”
AA Traffic News added: “Partially blocked and queueing traffic due to rolled over vehicle on A27 Westbound from A26 (Southerham roundabout) to A277 Brighton Road (Ashcombe roundabout). Congestion to Beddingham Roundabout. Lane two now closed on the eastbound carriageway.”
A collision has also reported at the Hollingbury / Ditchling junction, according to the AA, with slow traffic on the A27 eastbound from London Road to Coldean Lane
As a result of the traffic chaos, Brighton & Hove Albion's Premier League match against Liverpool will not kick-off at 12.30pm, as planned.
A official post on the club’s X account, at 11.50am, read: “Kick-off has been delayed by 15 minutes due to a road traffic accident on the A27.”
An account named @WhatNeverNext, on X, reported that hundreds of fans could not make it to the ground in time for 12.30.
The Seagull Travel official fans travel supplier reported: “Firstly, we hope everyone is ok following the A27 accident.
"As a consequence of the accident, we have had a number of our #bhafc routes impacted (updates already made)
“We thank our passengers for their patience.”
At 11.20am, the bus were running one hour late.
There are reports of gridlocked traffic in Alfriston village, as drivers avoid the A27.
Severe delays have been reported on A27 eastbound between A2038 King George Vi Avenue (Hove turn off) and Coldean Lane (Hollingbury / Ditchling junction).
There are severe delays of eleven minutes on A23 London Road southbound between A23 and Mill Road.
