Chelsea legend John Terry shared his immediate and honest verdict on Thomas Tuchel’s England decision regarding the Manchester United trio Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw.
Thomas Tuchel announced his squad for the March international break on Friday and there was big news for England duo Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo and Maguire have kept their 2026 World Cup dreams alive after securing a place in the 35-man squad that Three Lions boss Tuchel had named.
But Luke Shaw’s England hopes took a major hit after the 30-year-old Manchester United left-back was not called up for the Three Lions’ next two matches.

John Terry’s telling reaction to England boss Thomas Tuchel leaving Man Utd star Luke Shaw out of his picks
Luke Shaw has enjoyed a resurgence in form for the Red Devils and the England left-back has started all 31 of his side’s Premier League matches this season.
The Manchester United star has not played for England since Sir Gareth Southgate was in charge of the Three Lions, with his last appearance coming at Euro 2024.

Shaw played in the final of England’s Euro 2024 defeat to Spain, but the subsequent 2024-25 season with Man Utd was heavily disrupted due to injury setbacks.
Speaking on his TikTok page, former England and Chelsea captain John Terry felt that Shaw’s turnaround in form this season should have led to a Three Lions call-up.
“I’m actually a little surprised that Luke Shaw’s not been in,” he said.
“He would be a mainstay in my England squad and be on the plane, definitely, on the way to the World Cup.”

John Terry’s response to England boss Thomas Tuchel bringing Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo into the Three Lions fold
Neither Kobbie Mainoo nor Harry Maguire have featured under Tuchel since the 52-year-old German head coach took over at England from Sir Gareth Southgate.
Despite his disappointment about the England snub for Shaw, Terry admitted that he was thrilled that former Man Utd captain Maguire was in the Three Lions’ squad.
“Great to see Harry Maguire back in the squad as well,” he said.
“I think he’s been fantastic, an integral part of Michael Carrick’s performances and the return of form for Man United in recent weeks.”
Mainoo has been back to his best under Michael Carrick and Terry felt that the 20-year-old United midfielder deserved to be called up alongside Maguire again.
“Kobbie Mainoo adds to that as well,” Terry continued.
“I think he’s been first class, so delighted for those two guys to get back in.”
England will play friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley during the March international break in preparation for the 2026 World Cup campaign.
