West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville spoke to Ronald Koeman before he was left out of the Netherlands squad for their upcoming games.

Having hit form for West Ham United, Summerville was expected to earn his first ever call-up for the Netherlands ahead of their games against Norway and Ecuador.

However, Summerville has a calf injury and duly missed out on Koeman’s squad. That is a major blow for any World Cup dreams the winger may harbour, given the showpiece event is just around the corner.

Now, more insight from the Dutch media has emerged.

Summerville still expected to get chance for Netherlands

According to De Telegraaf, Summerville and Koeman held talks before the squad was decided.

They claim that the 24-year-old had hoped to play for West Ham against Aston Villa before the international break, but it has been decided that no risks will be taken.

The Hammers star is believed to remain an option for Koeman ahead of the World Cup and it’s thought that he will get the chance to represent his country at a later stage.

It will be interesting to see if he can make a late dash for their World Cup squad.

The Dutch squad boasts intense competition for places, with the likes of Noa Lang, Donyell Malen, Xavi Simons and Cody Gakpo operating in the positions that Summerville usually plays.

Summerville could still achieve World Cup dream

The former Leeds star has never played for his country at senior level but that does not mean he cannot still make the squad.

Prior to his injury, Summerville proved he is one of the best players in the Premier League in 2026.

He has consistently made a difference and has scored crucial goals against the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.

Should that kind of form continue once the international break is over, he could well prove too good to ignore for Koeman – who was clearly impressed to consider bringing him into the fold for these games.
