Keith Downie shares who is more likely to stay at Newcastle out of Sandro Tonali and Bruno…

Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are among the most high profile Newcastle United players to have been linked with a move away at the end of the season.

They are not, however, alone.

Indeed, Tino Livramento has also been tipped to leave Newcastle United this summer as the vultures begin to circle.

The links between Bruno Guimaraes and Manchester United – thoughts?

Sadly, several key Newcastle players are going to be linked away if the club miss out on Champions League qualification – which looks to be the case right now.

Both Guimaraes and Tonali have been linked with Manchester United, and Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has offered his opinion on the matter.

Tonali more likely to leave Newcastle United than Guimaraes

Obviously, there is no absolute guarantee that either player will leave.

However, writing in his Sky Sports column, Downie said: “Of the two, it feels as though Bruno is the more likely to stay for a prolonged period: he’s a bit older, he’s the club captain and Newcastle United has got under his skin.”

Downie adds that while Guimaraes may once have seen Newcastle as something of a stepping stone in his career, the club is now under his skin.

He wrote: “There is an emotional pull there for Bruno, and while he may have once considered Newcastle as a stepping stone when he arrived, I’m not so sure he would feel that way now.”

That’s not to say that Tonali does necessarily think of Newcastle as a stepping stone, but his agent has certainly previously indicated as much.

Downie adds: “I think it’s fair to say the future of neither player is certain, Tonali more so than Bruno, in what could be a summer of change at St James’ Park.”

Tonali has consistently been linked with a move back to Italy, but recent reports have credited the Red Devils, Arsenal, Man City and Real Madrid with an interest too.

Selling Tonali makes more sense than selling Guimaraes

Newcastle fans would no doubt be gutted to see Tonali leave.

The club stuck by him during his betting ban and the Italian returned to form by playing a big role in their Carabao Cup victory in 2025.

It feels like he has so much more to give, even if this season hasn’t been the easiest for him.

Still, Newcastle value Tonali at around £100million – money that could be reinvested into a few new players.

The Italy international is three years younger than Guimaraes, meaning there is much more likely to be a premium market for him.
