Liverpool have become a team that is no longer defined by superior work ethic and thrilling football.
After winning the Premier League title last season, the Reds have taken a major fall from grace.
Their tactics have been exposed, their confidence is flagging and there are serious question marks over manager Arne Slot’s long term future at the club, heading into the final year of his Liverpool contract.
With a lack of fitness compared to the rest of the league, Liverpool are unable to utilise tactics that have served them well. For this, Slot must take a measure of blame. His side is not fit enough, despite it being the 31st gameweek of the league season.

Liverpool have been a second-rate team all season. After spending £460m in the 2025 summer transfer window, they are imbalanced and lost any of the cutting edge that saw them stroll to their 20th league title last season.
Belief and emotion carried them through the first five games of the campaign following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. Since then, they have lost all confidence and drive.

Liverpool have been in steady decline all season, and it is showing no sign of improving.
Every time Liverpool take a step forward, they take a couple back in the following week.
After Liverpool’s demoralising 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, Arne Slot had this to say.
When asked about why Liverpool have lost 10 out of their 31 Premier League games, Slot said it is because of the standard of the division on the whole.
He said: “It says a lot about the great teams Liverpool have had in the last ten seasons and a great manager by the way as well. I can tell you why we have lost 10 times: conceding late goals, today sums it all up with the injury situation.
“It’s not my job to find excuses, my job is to find answers and that’s what I tried to find today. It worked not too bad in the first 45 mins. We were playing with them. We were close, they were close… second half they were the better team.”
This is an example of not knowing where the issues really arise from.
While Liverpool have lost 10 games, that’s not the problem. That’s how the real problems are manifesting.
If you have a cough, the problem isn’t the cough, it’s the infection causing it
Liverpool are a team hamstrung by poor fitness load management and flawed tactical setup. They can’t run more than any other team, and they can’t outplay them either.
So they concede late on when they’ve realised they have no trump cards to play and their opposition has more fitness and more belief.
