Joey Barton ‘faces serious trouble’ as ex-Newcastle man's financial problems emerge while in…

Joey Barton is reportedly facing dire financial difficulties just days after being denied bail following his arrest for an incident at a golf course. The ex- Premier League footballer was detained after a man was left with serious injuries following the brawl.

Matters were made worse for Barton as it was revealed he would have to cover Eni Aluko's £339,000 legal fees after being found guilty of posting grossly offensive electronic communications. The 43-year-old was also handed a suspended prison sentence for X posts about Aluko and TV presenter Jeremy Vine.

Vine, who was verbally abused by Barton on social media several times, estimated that legal proceedings cost the retired football player around £600,000 in damages and legal fees. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his alleged money woes.

According to The Sun, Barton's money troubles extend beyond the various court cases he's faced over recent years. In fact, HMRC are said to have been fuming with him investing in four dodgy film schemes deemed to be tax-avoidance investments, set up by controversial company Ingenious.

Joey Barton Promotions Limited, his image rights firm, has also racked up debts of £76,273. He also owns an energy management consultancy company called Resolve Energy with his friend Andrew Taylor. Both men are believed to owe £1.8 million in total for unpaid loans.

A source told The Sun that Barton 'faces serious trouble', with the mounting court cases adding up. They said in a statement:

"Barton faces serious trouble and that’s only been made worse by the fact he’s been involved with so many court cases.

“Each one costs thousands of pounds in legal fees and if you lose, it’s even worse."
