With both Mason Terry and Krisztian Hegyi speaking about their future, with Finlay Herrick enduring a nightmare end to the National League Cup final, it’s been an interesting few days for West Ham United’s next generation of goalkeepers.
On loan in his native Hungary with MTV Budapest, Hegyi is not giving up on a future with the Hammers.
Back in England, Fin Herrick sampled the highs and lows of life as a goalkeeper. A terrific virtuoso display ruined by a 93rd minute spill and an eventual penalty shoot-out defeat by Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.
Heartbreak for Herrick and West Ham! 😩
What did you make of that National League Cup final loss?

Now, speaking to BBC Sport, it was Mason Terry’s turn to reflect on a season in which another highly-talented West Ham United shot-stopper has made real, consistent progress.
Mason Terry’s ‘biggest goal’ is a Premier League debut at West Ham United
Canvey Island-born Mason Terry has been a revelation at Braintree Town in the National League. After racking up 17 clean sheets at Hornchurch in 2024/25, this season has seen him rack up 34 appearances, 10 clean sheets, one goal, one assist, and a staggering fifteen Man of the Match awards.
Terry will return to West Ham with his reputation greatly enhanced, and a first-team spot very much within his sights.

“My end goal is to represent my country, England. [At club level], obviously my biggest goal is to play in the Premier League for West Ham United,” a self-confident Terry says.

“And, for the next six to 18 months, [my goal] is to finish the season really strong and then be playing in the EFL. That is my next goal.”
Emerging as an unexpected game-changer in both penalty areas, Terry followed a stunning Braintree equaliser against Truro City with an assist in last week’s 1-1 draw with Morecambe.
“I just had a feeling in myself I was going to be the hero again!” Terry adds with a laugh. “Obviously after scoring at Truro about a month ago I just thought it was going to be me again.
“This time I was the provider to Lewis Walker who finished it really well.”
How do you feel about Mads Hermansen NOW? 🇩🇰 🧤
Has he won you over? Or are there still doubts?

Terry faces a battle with Finlay Herrick amid uncertain Alphonse Areola future
Mads Hermansen has surely earned the chance to establish himself as West Ham’s long-term number one in recent weeks, but there are doubts surrounding Alphonse Areola’s future with only one year left on his contract.
Herrick, Terry and potentially also Hegyi will all have designs on a first-team spot in the relatively near future, then.
“I think everyone is obviously competing for that number one jersey!” Terry admits. “For me, it’s just about focusing on myself, being the best version of myself every single game I play, and that’s all I can do.
“I don’t worry about other people. All I think about is how I can be better every single day and how I can perform to get to the level I want to get to.
“I’ve mapped out my journey, and I believe in what’s going to happen. If you believe in yourself, anything can become possible.”
Loans and pathways manager Carlton Cole caught up with Terry during a trip to Braintree a few weeks back; West Ham keeping a close eye on a potential future number one.
