The Clarets took the lead against the run of play on the hourmark when Zian Flemming converted Lyle Foster’s cross from close range.

But within 13 minutes, the Cottagers were in front with two avoidable goals, as Josh King and Harry Wilson took full advantage.

“I thought our general performance today, probably for 60 minutes, was very good,” Parker said.

“Coming away from home against a good side, I thought we were brave in the way we played.

“We had some big chances, especially the one in the first half where it looked like a handball as well.

“We didn't manage to weather that at that present moment in time. You just need to try and stay in it and they score again quickly.

“By that point, obviously, you make a lot of changes, trying to chase the game down and the game becomes quite open.”

When asked to explain Burnley’s collapse, Parker added: “Yes, it wasn't ideal.

“The famous cliché is goals change games at that moment. It was a blow for us.

“Like I said, when you want to take a knee and take an eight count, that's what we needed to do. We didn't maintain that and it was a second goal quickly after that, so that was disappointing.”

The game then threatened to get away from the Clarets towards the death, as Fulham added a third from the penalty spot and Burnley were reduced to 10 men when Josh Laurent was shown a straight red card.

“I've not looked at it back in real time,” Parker said.

“I thought it looked soft, the penalty. I honestly thought it looked soft, but again, I don't want to sit here and go strong on that because I've not seen it back.

“If it is a penalty and he sees that as a denying opportunity of them scoring by the law, it's obviously a penalty, but I thought it was soft.”
