Man Utd set for Pgmol complaint as Bruno Fernandes lashes out at referee vs Bournemouth

Manchester United are set to file a complaint to the referees' chief, Howard Webb, after the incidents that occurred against Bournemouth on Friday night, with the Red Devils denied a penalty at the Vitality Stadium.

There were three key penalty incidents on the night, but only one of those went in United's favour. Bruno Fernandes fired home from the spot to give United the lead after Matheus Cunha was fouled in the box, but the Manchester club were denied a penalty not long after.

Adrien Truffert appeared to grab Amad Diallo in the penalty area, but nothing was given, and Bournemouth went up the other end to score.

A host of United players, along with Michael Carrick, voiced their concerns about the decision not to award United a second penalty, and the club are now set to take it one step further.

Man Utd Set to Lodge PGMOL Complaint

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to file a formal complaint to the PGMOL after they were denied a penalty on Amad in the second half against Bournemouth.

United officials believe it is 'yet another VAR blunder', after both the on-field referee and VAR failed to give them a penalty for the alleged foul by Truffert.

This isn't the first time United have let their feelings be known to the PGMOL, making complaints after decisions against them versus Brentford and Burnley this season.

Carrick, who is usually a calm and collected character, certainly wasn't happy after the game, suggesting he found it 'astonishing' that they weren't awarded the penalty.

"For him (Atwell) to give one penalty and not the other… I find it crazy. I cannot understand it. Mental. It’s astonishing. One of them must be wrong. A big opportunity to go 2-0 up and we get one penalty and not the other. It's exactly the same thing really - a two-handed grab. He's got one wrong so, I don't know which one but he doesn't give us the second one."

Bruno Fernandes also made comments about the decision, like Carrick, pointing to the fact that Bournemouth were given a penalty for a similar incident.

"Not getting a penalty and then we get a penalty against where it's the same situation as Amad - one is one, one is not. I know it's difficult for the referee to give two penalties to the same team in one game but I don't understand why VAR doesn't get involved in that situation or with Harry [Maguire] because either one is a penalty and so is the other or none of them are. Amad is getting to a point where he's going to shoot and he gets pushed - you can see that something puts him completely out of balance. It's frustrating for the small players because they always say the small players are soft and when it's the bigger players they end up giving the fouls. I think the other situation is a penalty but I also think the one on Amad is a penalty and that could've changed the game."

There were certainly similarities between the two incidents, but the PGMOL may argue that the foul from Harry Maguire was given on-field, whereas the foul on Amad wasn't, meaning VAR may have felt it wasn't a clear and obvious error from the referee.
