'Really disappointed': Steven Gerrard tells Arne Slot how to win Liverpool fans back after Brighton

Liverpool fans are once again venting their anger towards Arne Slot after the loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Supporters were baffled by Slot during the match after he opted to replace Hugo Ekitike with Curtis Jones.

Now, after suffering a 10th Premier League defeat of 25/26 vs Brighton, Steven Gerrard has said Liverpool must now go on to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Arne Slot told Liverpool must beat Manchester City in FA Cup

The March international break is now upon us, and that is probably good news for Liverpool given their mounting injury woes.

But when club football resumes, the Merseyside outfit take on City in the fourth round of the cup on April 4, a tie that Gerrard now thinks is a must-win.

Speaking live on TNT Sports post-Brighton, the former Liverpool midfielder was asked: “How can he regain their [fans] trust now?”

To which Gerrard responded: “Beat Man City in the FA Cup. That is the only really thing he can control now. He can change nothing about today. I think he’ll be really disappointed in the overall performance. I think he acknowledged the fact that they were going to suffer at times today through what they had to put in midweek.

“You know, they just couldn’t match Brighton’s intensity and energy level throughout the 90 minutes today. They done really well to get back into the game after going a goal down. First half, for large parts, they did okay, but in the second half, Brighton come out and really went through the gears. They lifted at a level and Liverpool just couldn’t live with them.”

Arne Slot’s record against Manchester City

Well, that may be easier said than done, given Liverpool’s poor form in England this term.

Since he arrived at Anfield, Slot has endured a mixed run in meetings with the Sky Blues.

Liverpool beat Man City at home on December 1, 2024, during the Dutchman’s first game, before then winning the reverse fixture by the same scoreline on February 23, 2025.

However, in the current campaign, the Reds have already lost 3-0 at the Etihad and 2-1 in the last clash back in February.
