'Wish you all the best': Former Liverpool player ready for Arne Slot exit after Brighton loss

Arne Slot saw Liverpool lose their 10th Premier League game of the season on Saturday, and Jermaine Pennant is not happy.

During all of Jurgen Klopp’s full seasons at Anfield, the Reds never lost more than nine league games in one campaign (also 10 in 2015/16 when Brendan Rodgers started the season).

Now, with that record already matched with seven games of 2025/26 to go, Jermaine Pennant has wished Slot all the best in his future endeavours.

Jermaine Pennant suggests Arne Slot will leave Liverpool before next season

Pennant was very vocal in his criticism while watching the loss to Brighton, and has shared his view of Slot on X/Twitter.

He wrote: “Liverpool got out ran again today, and Brighton had a 40-year-old playing in midfield.

“We are cooked, Champions League football next season no chance. Thank you Mr Slot for the Premier League title and your service, but I wish you all the best next season on your future endeavours.”

As well as telling Slot he could be out of a job next season, Pennant also made his feelings on the manager’s use of Rio Ngumoha clear.

Ngumoha was left on the bench in the first half, with Curtis Jones instead replacing the injured Hugo Ekitike, a decision that left Liverpool fans baffled.

Pennant was furious with the call to use Jones over the 17-year-old winger.

In another tweet, he wrote: “This is where Slot infuriates me… bring on Rio and put Gakpo down the middle, it’s not rocket science.”

Ngumoha eventually came on in the second half, but he was unable to change the course of the fixture.

Still, he was given a 7.0 rating by Sofascore, completed four out of four passes and managed three dribbles out of five.

He also won five ground duels and carried the ball a total of 81.3m. Will that be enough to get him a start against Manchester City after the international break? Probably not in Slot’s eyes.
