Common sense breaks out at London Stadium | West Ham News

How often have we seen players come back from injuries too soon and suddenly face a longer, more serious layoff. However much their club needs them – or in this case, the player concerned harbours dreams of representing his nation at the summer World Cup – the ‘club versus country’ dilemma has to be solved with the best interests of the player paramount: As indeed the situation regarding Crysencio Summerville‘s calf injury appears to have taken shape.

Summerville would have been busting a gut to get into Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad for the March friendlies. Competition within the side is immense when you look at the names with whom West Ham’s Flying Dutchman is competing: Xavi Simons, Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen and Noa Lang all have ambitions in that left sided role.

West Ham winger Summerville is not risking an overambitious comeback simply to make the Dutch squad

Reportedly (according to telegraaf.nl) the two agreed not to ‘force it ‘and risk aggravating or causing a more serious injury whilst West Ham’s winger is in recovery:

“Summerville had hoped to be able to play for his club again against Aston Villa this weekend, but that game is still too early. After consultation with Koeman, it was decided not to take any risks in this international period.”

Common sense clearly breaking out will come as a huge relief to Nuno and the West Ham hierarchy who will hope Summerville returns for the FA Cup quarter final and keeps his incredible form going: Surely just more motivation, were it required, for Summerville to keep producing the ‘showtime’ through to the end of the season before the final Dutch squad is named. A hatful of goals and assists and he’ll likely still book a place on the plane.
