Rio Ferdinand names the one midfielder he thinks Man Utd should sign above anyone else

Manchester United’s midfield recruitment plans this summer entail signing a top-tier midfielder, with Rio Ferdinand now stating who he would favour.

The need for a midfield rebuild has been brought about by Manchester United imminently losing Casemiro, as the Brazilian will see his contract expire in June with no current prospect of extending.

Casemiro has recommended Bruno Guimaraes as his successor, and since then, reportedly, United have been in talks to sign him.

But there are countless options on the table, with Rio Ferdinand now picking out his preferred signing.

IF Elliot Anderson signs for Man City, who would be your TOP PRIORITY midfield alternative?

Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sign Elliot Anderson

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, the legendary United defender named Elliot Anderson as his dream midfield signing.

“Elliot Anderson. I think someone has jumped to the front of the queue. And I think he’s a wonderful player.

“I think Elliot Anderson is the right type of not only player but character that I think would be a good addition to the squad.

“Tonali is a big talent that everyone’s talking about. Guimaraes, as well, is another big talent that people are talking about.

“But I just think it’s the type of midfielder Man United needs is somebody that’s got a bit more all action that can cover ground, who’s dynamic, who is robust, who is strong, who can drive a team. And right now, Anderson seems to be ticking all of those boxes.”

Manchester United needs two things to sign Elliot Anderson

United’s top midfield option is Anderson; however, due to his brilliance, he’s also wanted by other elite clubs.

Bayern Munich wants Anderson for one. But the current frontrunner is Manchester City, who are ready to sign Anderson this summer.

Anderson will have his pick, and so it’s hard to imagine United winning the race for his signature unless two vital areas are sorted.

First, United needs to make a decision on who will be the manager next season as soon as possible, as he won’t commit to a club without knowing the direction they are headed.

Additionally, Champions League football will probably be a necessity for Anderson when deciding where he is heading.

Solve those two questions, and United will have as good a chance as anyone else.
