Everton earned a 3-0 victory over Chelsea with James Garner playing a key role yet again.
David Moyes assessed James Garner’s performance in Everton’s victory over Chelsea and declared: ‘He was the best player on the pitch’.
The Toffees delivered a resounding 3-0 win against the London side at Hill Dickinson Stadium to bolster their European qualification hopes. Beto was at the double with Iliman Ndiaye also on target for Everton.
Garner earned his maiden call-up to the England squad earlier this week and showed why. He delivered a superb display in the engine room and played an inch-perfect pass to assist Beto’s opener.
And Moyes feels that Garner is showing he’s just as good as the elite midfielders in the Premier League. The Everton manager said: “Jimmy Garner was the best player on the pitch, head and shoulders, and he was up against so many players who will go to the World Cup and play international football.
“I thought his pass for the first ball was exquisite. The levels of the players who was playing against was always going to be a judge of how he could perform. I think he has taken that on greatly. He has nearly taken it as a challenge and tonight, the way he played, his endeavour and speed to recover the ball back is another side of his game we need because we don’t always have the ball as much as the likes of a Chelsea.
“That level of a performance is not just tonight and that's why he's been called up. He's had to play well because the last international game was before Christmas. He was on the radar, didn't quite make it and has had to keep his form up from November to March and he has. He's been at a level he had to keep doing it all the time up against [Enzo] Fernandez tonight, Elliott Anderson at Nottingham Forest or Declan Rice at Arsenal. If you think about the levels of the players he's having to play against and compete, he's doing a brilliant job.”
