As Spurs will not feature in Europe next season, there could be exits of some high-profile players if the club fails to maintain its top-flight status. There is no room for complacency, as the N17 chiefs will have several gaping holes in the squad to address.
Scoring goals has been a problem for the North Londoners, with Richarlison being their top scorer with 10 strikes this term. Dominic Solanke’s season has been ravaged by injury issues, while Randal Kolo Muani will return to PSG after his loan expires in the summer. The future of Richarlison, too, remains up in the air as he enters the final year of his contract in June.
Tottenham surprisingly linked with move for Nottingham Forest misfit Arnaud Kalimuendo
It has become clear that Tottenham need to bring in additional reinforcements in attack during the summer. Fans will also hope that the North Londoners target the right profiles to improve the potency of their attacking unit. Ahead of the summer transfer window, Spurs have now been linked with a shock move for a player employed by one of their relegation rivals.
According to an exclusive report from German outlet Fussball Daten, Arnaud Kalimuendo has emerged as a target for Tottenham. Aston Villa are also considered as a suitor, with Unai Emery in search of a creative striker.
After a frustrating six months with Nottingham Forest, Arnaud Kalimuendo joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January. The loan agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent for around €27 million. The 24-year-old has made a strong impression in the Bundesliga, registering four goals and an assist in 11 outings for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Frankfurt are impressed with the Franco-Congolese striker’s contributions and are weighing up a permanent transfer. Their new head coach, Albert Riera, is an admirer of Kalimuendo’s sharp movement, runs in behind and clinical finishing in front of goal. Should Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League, they’ll get the funds to trigger the centre-forward’s buy option clause. If they don’t and he returns to Nottingham Forest, the former France youth international is unlikely to be short of suitors.
Tottenham’s interest in Kalimuendo is mindboggling. The former PSG academy talent’s performances in Germany have no doubt been impressive, but it is hard to look past the struggles he endured in the first half of the season at Forest in the Premier League. He made just nine Premier League appearances, with no starts to his name and failed to score a single goal.
It appears Spurs’ name has been used to generate interest in Kalimuendo across Europe. Shopping at the high end of the market will be difficult in the summer without European football, so the Hotspur Way chiefs have to be astute with their transfer dealings. If Tottenham fail to secure their top targets, we could pivot to Kalimuendo as an option to bolster the attacking ranks.
